The jewelry industry has standard necklace standard lengths measured in inches, however, our Heartland pendants’ custom-designed pieces can be cut into whatever size the customer decides.

Heartland pendants’ Chain Lengths
At Heartland pendants we offer five standard lengths:

1.Choker 16”  for all necklines

Chokers are perhaps the most versatile length of all because they can go with all necklines, generally 16″ long, lie close to the neck and have a classic look. Chokers work beautifully on a long, thin neck (the proverbial “swan neck”), worn best with Open-neck clothing such as scoop necks, V-necks, off-the-shoulder and boatnecks, and with all styles, from formal to career to casual. A choker on a short neck can make that neck look stubby — and possibly wider than it is. A wide, short neck can’t rock a choker, especially a wide one. Wrinkled necks need to stay away from short and tight necklaces too.

2. Princess 18″  for crew and high necklines

A Princess length chain usually hangs right below the collarbone. This length is best suited for crew and high necklines, but can also be worn with plunging necklines. These are the best length for supporting a pendant or group of charms.

3.Matinee 20″  for short and wide necks.

A Matinee length chain is a bit longer than a Princess length, running at 20″ long. If you have a short or wide neck, this length will elongate your neck and make it more swan-like. This length is ideal for casual or even business attire, and will usually hit right at or below the V in a V-neck. This is also a good length for charms and pendants and is easy to wear over a crew neck.

4.Opera 24″ and 30″ for  High necklines and wrinkled necks

The name of this length stems from the 1920s and 1930s, when it was fashionable for women attending the opera to wear long necklaces that fall at or below the bustline. Opera length runs at 24″ to 30″long. This length can fit over your head so can be a good choice if you like to take your jewelry on and off often. opera worn best with High necklines and evening wear. Wrinkled necks need to stay away from short and tight necklaces, use a longer necklace, perhaps with a stunning pendant, to draw the viewer’s eye away from your winkles.

Additional Tips

Measure  Neck Size
Look in the mirror and decide how the necklace looks on you; and if you like it, wear it! It’s a good idea to measure your neck and where you want your necklace to lay before you shop for a chain. You can measure it by using cloth measuring tape, put it around your neck like it’s a necklace and place it at where you’d want it. Then measure the string. This will tell you about the chain length you like.

Consider Lengths and widths

Your upper torso and your height are also key part of your body to consider before buying a chain necklace. women of average height and taller can wear just about any length necklace, but if you’re taller, a short chain may get lost on you, and short women may be overwhelmed by long necklaces better for them to choose a length that sits on your collarbone or just below. Usually, a necklace shorter than 22 inches sits above or at the bust. When you go longer, though, make sure the necklace works with the length of your torso and your bust, especially if you are short or full-figured.

Consider your face shape

Oval faces can wear any length of necklace .A longer necklace, possibly with a pendant or charm, can create a slimming “V” for round face, but choker can make round face look rounder. However the recommendation is exactly opposite for heart-shaped faces. The roundness of a choker will smooth out the heart shape’s planes and angles. Long, rectangular faces also benefit from the roundness of the choker.

Consider your Clothing

Your clothing is another important part of your necklace length decision. Let’s stick with turtlenecks as an example. Long ropes of chain or beads will look great with turtlenecks on most women, but if you are short or full-figured, they may not.  Once you have decided what you will wear, just make sure the necklace length you choose adds to the overall look and enhances your appearance.
